The EFR Training Division consists of a Captain,
Lieutenant and EMS Coordinator. A Deputy Chief oversees the division.
The Training Division is responsible for training over 120 career
firefighters and officers, over 100 volunteer firefighters and
officers as well as departmental support staff.
The work includes scheduling, developing, coordinating internal and
external agencies, delivering training and record keeping as required
by WAC 296-305, 296-62 and other related local, state and federal laws
and standards. We also are associated with zone, county, regional and
state associations to strive for consistency in training with mutual
responses and cost effectiveness.
Much time is spent administering the Joint Apprentice Training
Committee (JATC) program. This includes testing and recordkeeping to
ensure a career firefighter successfully completes a 3-year program,
which upon successful completion marks a Journeyman Firefighter.
Another important task is maintaining certifications of Basic Life
Support skills, which keep the Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) and
First Responders (FR) with up to date training.
Examples of types of training include: Live Fire Training,
Extrication, Emergency Vehicle Accident Prevention, Emergency Medical
Services, Wildland, Confined Space, Trench Rescue, Ventilation,
Sprinklers, New Hire Orientation, Tactical, Incident Command,
Leadership, Hazardous Materials, Ladders, Hose, Safety and many more
topics.
The division also assists in Promotional Testing, AV Support, Special
Projects and Emergency Response and Support as needed.
