Interactive Exhibit Aims to Educate Parents on Hidden Signs of Substance Misuse 2/9/23

ISSAQUAH, Wash., Feb 16, 2023 – One word seems to have dominated local and national media lately regarding the poisoning and accidental death of teenagers, Fentanyl. King County alone saw a 43% increase in overdose deaths from 2021 to 2022. Parents, relatives, and community members are invited to join an interactive exhibit and resource fair on preventing youth substance use.

Hidden in Plain Sight

When: Thursday, February 16

6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Where: Issaquah High School

700 2nd Ave SE, Issaquah, WA 98027

Hidden in Plain Sight is an exhibit created by Influence the Choice. The evening includes a re-creation of a teenage bedroom with signs of substance misuse. The event aims to educate and empower parents to communicate proactively with their children. Homeland Security and the Drug Enforcement Administration will be presenting on common slang and emojis associated with substance abuse.

Influence the Choice is a nonprofit, community-based, grassroots organization dedicated to preventing youth substance use and to promoting the mental, physical, and social wellness of our youth.

Eastside Fire & Rescue provides fire and emergency medical services to Issaquah, North Bend, Sammamish, Carnation, Preston, May Valley, Wilderness Rim, Tiger Mountain, and Woodinville. ESF&R averages 14,000 calls per year and employs 188 sworn personnel.
